Calf Pasture Beach

One of the many reasons people live and visit CT are the beautiful beaches! Calf Pasture Beach is located on the eastern point of Norwalk, and is well worth a trip to enjoy the well-maintained beach and all it has to offer.

Some of the many wonderful features of this beach and neighboring Shady Beach Park include a ¾-mile coastline on the Long Island Sound. Life-guard monitored during the summer season, it also has a fishing pier, which was beautifully rebuilt after Hurricane Sandy, playgrounds, a boat ramp, accessible restrooms, outdoor showers, baseball diamonds, a volleyball court (with light at night), bocce courts, skateboard ramp, kayak/paddle boarding and small craft rental and a restaurant maintained by Ripka Beach Cafe.

Shady Beach Park, adjacent to Calf Pasture offers shaded picnic tables, grills, and additional restroom facilities. The beach on this side is not life-guard monitored. Summer evenings might include outdoor movies! Bring your blanket and bug spray.

During the summer season, one can enjoy music on the beach by various bands (bring your lawn chair), car shows, and go-kart racing. Also, let’s not forget the 4th of July fireworks which are held at the beach.

A fun fact about this historically significant beach and park is that it was used by Connecticut colony settlers in the 17th century as grazing land for cows. It was also used as a disembarkation and encampment during the Tryon raid of the American Revolutionary War in 1779.

Easily accessible by public transportation and by car. It is free for residents of Norwalk, you can buy a day pass by using an app. Go to https://www.norwalkct.org/2094/Calf-Pasture-and-Shady-Beach for more info.
